The Deer Dance

The Mayan Deer Dance accompanied by the marimba is a vibrant Belizean tradition featuring 25 performers portraying deer, jaguars, monkeys and Spaniards through music and storytelling. Revived by Maya communities with government support, it showcases cultural resilience, spirituality, and Belize’s deep connection to nature and heritage.

The Toucan

The Keel-billed Toucan, Belize’s national bird, is famous for its vibrant, canoe-shaped bill. Found in forests, it thrives in small groups, nesting in tree cavities. This social bird feeds on fruit, insects, and eggs, playing a vital role in Belize’s ecosystem.

The Jaguar

Belize is home to the world’s only jaguar preserve, the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. This protected area shelters around 200 jaguars, offering a rare glimpse into the life of the Western Hemisphere’s largest big cat, known for its powerful bite and stealthy nature.

Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave

Belize, home to an extensive network of caves, offers a window into ancient Maya rituals. The Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave, named the #1 Sacred Cave by National Geographic, holds the famous "Crystal Maiden”, a well-preserved human skeleton, alongside pottery and ceremonial artifacts.

The Jankunu Dance

Jankunu Dance, also known as John Canoe, is a powerful Garifuna tradition from southern Belize. Rooted in African secret societies, it combines music, dance, and cultural symbolism, performed by men in colonial garb to mock English slave masters, showcasing male resilience and resistance.
